Fasting Mimicking For Similar Benefits

Fasting has long been known to provide a host of health benefits when done properly and under certain conditions. These benefits may include a renewal of the immune system, a longer lifespan and a reduced risk of heart disease. However, new research is emerging which is revealing that fasting mimicking is another way to receive the same advantages without actually depriving the body completely of food.

Fasting mimicking is based on the consumption of a calorie-restricted diet such as vegetable soup and chamomile tea as was looked at in the study here: Five Day Fasting. FMD or fasting diet mimicking is safer and easier than a strict fast because of the allowance for some nourishment. The study allowed the participants to intake their normal meals for 25 days out of the month and only mimic fasting for 5 days. Even with the return to normal diets for the majority of the time participants saw improvements in health.

Reprogramming the body into a slower aging mode is the key to this type of diet and seems to have good results. A few at Amen Clinics have tried this tactic. Even with the consumption of 3 meals per day the calorie intake can still remain lower than before and professors of Metabolic Medicine are confirming that life longevity and health are increased with this practice. It is certainly a good alternative to try for those who have not been able to maintain a strict fast for various reasons.
